A data catalog and marketplace for real value creation
Compared to the rest of the Nordics and Europe, Norway is falling behind in data sharing and in realizing the potential of artificial intelligence. Tietoevry Data Nest is here to change that – a platform designed to help organizations get started quickly with secure data sharing, data product development, and AI implementation.
Tietoevry Data Nest is now live
- “Our goal with Tietoevry Data Nest – as both a platform and a tool with built-in AI functionality – is to make it possible for users without data or AI expertise to generate real value. We’ve built the car so our customers can focus on the journey,” says Tommi Larsen, Head of Concept Development, Data and Insights at Tietoevry Industry.
Larsen notes that a steady stream of reports and surveys shows that Norway continues to struggle with both data sharing and meaningful AI adoption.
- “I believe the main reason is that there are still very few platforms where it’s safe and easy to structure, share, develop, and sell data and data products across organizations, municipalities, and other public and private entities,” he says.
“In our dialogue with customers and partners, it’s clear that this isn’t about a lack of ambition, but rather about capability. Most organizations are eager to realize the value of data and AI—but don’t know where to start. Tietoevry Data Nest is our answer to that challenge.”
A secure starting point for data and AI
Tietoevry Industry’s Data Services unit, where Larsen works, has decades of experience handling public data. Until a few years ago, the team was the sole provider of public-sector data in Norway through the Infotorg service. That experience now powers new, modern solutions in an open data economy.
- “Data Nest offers a secure and scalable way for organizations to explore the value of their own data, combined with external datasets available on the market,” Larsen explains.
The platform includes a data catalog, where users can store metadata and search across published datasets. Through the marketplace, organizations can develop data products, collaborate across sectors, and buy or sell datasets.
- “We’ve handled the infrastructure—so you can focus on creating value.”
Larsen emphasizes that the solution lowers the barrier for getting started with data—internally and externally: “We’ve made it easier to structure and share data, so users can focus on generating insights or accessing ready-to-use data products.”
Built-in AI features that help you move faster
The same philosophy is behind the platform’s AI capabilities, which are available from day one.
- “When both private and public sectors struggle with AI adoption, it’s often because their data isn’t organized—or because the technology is still evolving. But we’re now entering a new phase with prebuilt AI apps, agents, and embedded functionality that change the game,” says Larsen.
Early features in Data Nest include:
- Automatic detection of relationships between datasets
- Query translation into SQL
- Reduced hallucinations in AI-generated results
More advanced capabilities are already in development. These include AI-powered search across datasets using natural language or keyword queries, automatic productization of datasets, flagging of sensitive data or compliance issues, and even no-code tools for building AI apps directly from data—without requiring technical skills.
