Helsinki, Finland – The world isn’t 50/50, and neither should our workforce be. Nordic technology company, Tietoevry, has updated its official gender-balance target to 49/49. This approach recognizes the global presence of non-binary and other gender identities, aiming to create a workforce that reflects the diversity of the communities it serves.
A few years back, Tietoevry set a target to reach 50/50 gender balance by 2030, and while the company has been proudly driving and advocating this, time has come to recalibrate objectives. The company recognizes the importance of acknowledging individuals who identify outside of the traditional binary system. The updated 49/49 target, aligned with the estimated 1–3% of the global population** identifying as non-binary or other genders, reinforces Tietoevry's commitment to welcoming everyone as they are.
“We understand that inclusion goes beyond simple numbers,” says Trond Vinje, Head of HR at Tietoevry. “Policies meant to be inclusive can sometimes unintentionally exclude those who identify outside of the binary. That’s why we have updated our goal to 49/49 gender balance over time. With this, we signal and commit to making space for inclusion.”
Tietoevry believes that diversity and inclusion are crucial in many ways: workforces representing and respecting varied perspectives and approaches are known to achieve better decisions, increase innovation and thereby support the organization’s success. In the current tech talent landscape, diverse teams are more essential than ever.
Tietoevry's commitment to inclusivity extends beyond its target. The company actively works towards these goals, and the progress is transparently monitored. This commitment is reflected in several initiatives, such as employee trainings and making job ads and facilities more inclusive for the LGBTQ+ community.
“We will continue with open eyes and hearts to learn and adopt new solutions and tools, recognizing that our journey towards a truly equitable and representative workplace culture is ongoing”, says Trond Vinje.
One significant step is Tietoevry's partnership with Pride organizations.
“Supporting Pride allows us to stand with the LGBTQ+ community throughout the year,” says Trond Vinje. “A culture that embraces diversity and inclusion makes us stronger. We know this is a passion for many of our colleagues. We have been, and continue to be, proud to strive for organizational inclusion by welcoming all people, regardless of gender identity and sexual orientation," Vinje continues.
In March this year, Tietoevry launched a Sustainability Pledge to guide and accelerate the company’s sustainability performance for 2024 and beyond. The pledge includes three pillars: climate action, ethical conduct and social impact.
Within social impact, Tietoevry is committed to respecting and supporting human rights and labour rights across their operations and have set the following key targets:
