The switch to HPE Synergy infrastructure will also reduce energy consumption and improve cyber security.
Lead Service Owner, Mainframe and Capacity Services
Region Skåne’s digital infrastructure includes 1800 on-premise servers and over 7 PBs of storage. These are used by the local health care services and others to run their critical applications. Because of the applications’ vital nature, operational reliability and security of the IT infrastructure is critical.
Region Skåne grows by 36 new residents every day, and digital services are a part of how they respond to the challenges of growth. Their datacenters need to provide a flexible environment to develop and produce scalable new services.
Tietoevry’s task is to manage Region Skåne’s critical IT infrastructure in a way that maximizes stability and enables them to utilize modern technologies, like containers.
As a part of this task, Tietoevry manages the lifecycle of Region Skåne’s datacenter hardware. Tietoevry is now preparing to upgrade the computing platform with HPE Synergy composable infrastructure.
This will help ensure that the growing population of Skåne continues to receive highly reliable health care services. It will also enable Region Skåne to further develop the digital aspects of those services.
Infrastructure servicesRegion Skåne is responsible for health care and public transport, business development, culture, infrastructure, social planning, and environmental and climate-related issues in Skåne. Region Skåne includes 33 municipalities and is Skåne’s largest employer.
Skåne’s population grows daily, and the need for new and scalable digital services grows along with it. The upgraded hardware plays a big part in enabling Region Skåne to serve its residents better.
Region Skåne’s data centres host many critical healthcare systems and applications. The stability and security of its digital infrastructure is a matter of life and death.
The new HPE hardware will empower Region Skåne to reduce its IT carbon footprint. Its energy efficiency will also help reduce Region Skåne’s electricity consumption.
Tietoevry is responsible for managing and developing Region Skåne’s IT infrastructure, and the HPE lifecycle project falls under that mission. The project covers approximately 1000 virtual machines.
A key to the project’s success is that it needs to be executed in a way that minimizes the impact on Region Skåne’s services.
We have worked with Tietoevry for a long time, and we trust them to handle things in the best possible manner and with minimum impact on our day-to-day services. Tietoevry keeps us informed about the project and makes sure our needs are met.

Tietoevry will upgrade Region Skåne’s current HPE stack to HPE Synergy composable blade infrastructure.
This will provide them with a robust infrastructure that supports fast deployment of any current and future workloads – including containerized workloads. It will also allow for 42% higher virtual machine density, which means less hardware.
Increased performance and rightsizing the hardware will also lessen the data centre’s energy consumption. This will, in turn, reduce Region Skåne's costs and its carbon footprint.
In the current geopolitical climate, cyber security is more important than ever. HPE Synergy infrastructure solutions are designed and manufactured with advanced built-in security features. A zero-trust approach is applied in layers to detect tampering anywhere inside the infrastructure and to prevent cyber-attacks. This will strengthen the base of Region Skåne’s cyber security.
