The challenge

Aspöck Systems develops innovative lighting and system solutions for vehicles. The company faced the complex task of preparing its IT landscape for the migration to SAP S/4HANA. In addition to the international production sites in Austria, Portugal, and Poland each having their local requirements, integration into the extensive system landscape with SAP EWM, SAP ME, and SAP HCM also had to be taken into account in order to ensure operational continuity and enable future innovations.

The solution

Aspöck Systems selected Tietoevry Austria as a strategic partner to support the development of a comprehensive SAP S/4HANA roadmap. The primary objective was to develop a clear, structured approach that would address the technical migration and also highlight the innovative potential of SAP S/4HANA and SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP).

Approach

In the span of several weeks, Tietoevry implemented a structured approach, which included the following steps:

1. As-is analysis: A thorough analysis of the existing systems assessed migration readiness and identified potential challenges early on. We utilized various tools and approaches for analysis such as the SAP Readiness Check, consistency checks, and Custom Code Check, highlighting the company-specific challenges.
2. Discovery and scoping workshops: In addition to the technical component, we also focused on process-related aspects in business workshops. We aimed to uncover opportunities for process improvements with SAP S/4HANA and, regardless of the changeover, to find ways to further optimize processes from a business perspective. On the basis of this analysis, the project scope was crystallized in order to ensure maximum added value for Aspöck Systems and decrease the probability of risks.
3. Innovation potential with SAP S/4HANA and SAP BTP: The team of experts identified and visualized opportunities for further development and innovation within the new SAP environment.
4. Transformation scenarios including evaluation of Grow/RISE: Various migration scenarios were examined to determine the optimal strategy for Aspöck Systems.

With the intention of revolutionizing vehicle lighting, the inventor Felix Aspöck screwed together the first lighting system in his private basement workshop in 1977. In doing so, he paved the way for the company to become a global corporation. Today, it is almost impossible not to come across one of their lighting systems on the road, as their market share is already 65% of the European car and truck trailer market. Aspöck successfully produces sophisticated lighting solutions, still based on the "simple" concept from way back then: the complete system of a lighting installation.

Over 47 years, nine expansions at the Austrian headquarters and numerous expansions of the production sites later, Aspöck produces at three European locations: Austria, Portugal, and Poland. 8 sales subsidiaries currently represent their lighting visions in Brazil, Germany, England, France, Italy, Sweden, Spain, and Türkiye.
